How to take great photos with your Iphone or Android Smartphone
You don’t need a a big hefty camera to take your product photos, these days a smart phone is all that you need. I take the majority of my photos with my Sony Xperia Z5.
This week I will be talking about my top tips for taking great photos with your phone and next week I will show you my top apps for editing, overlays and text.
TO ZOOM OR NOT TO ZOOM
The zoom function on smart phones are not the best. Move closer to the subject instead. You will find that when you go to edit the photo it will be pixilated and not look very good.
CHOOSE YOUR CAMERA
It may be faster to use the camera on Instagram but the resolution is not as good as using the actual camera app. Take the photo, edit then upload it to Instagram.
TAP THAT FOCUS
Did you know that your phone has a focus feature. By tapping on the screen a little square will show up, this is where the camera will focus.
FOLLOW THE GRID
The grid is is a tool to mark out the compositional Rule of Thirds. by following the lines of the grid and placing items along that line will make your image more pleasing to the eye.
TURN THAT FLASH OFF
The flash will overexpose your photo, it is better to move your products around until you find the best light instead then edit to get the correct exposure.
KEEP IT CLEAN
Before you start to take your photo clean the lens of your camera, it’s easy to have a build up of dirt and fingerprints. Trust me it may not look dirty but a wipe with a tissue will make a big difference.
BACK IS BETTER
The camera on the front of your phone doesn’t contain the same number of megapixles and will not take a good a photo as the camera on the back.
Use a tripod, they are cheap and easy to pick up these days. Using a tripod in low light situations can help to give you a clearer photo.
CROP IT LATER
It may seem like a time saving idea to set your phone to take photos as a square but you may miss important parts of your surroundings that you may not see until you are editing.
PUMP UP THE VOLUME
I am one for taking selfies and I have recently learnt a new trick.. Plug in your headphone and use the volume control to take the photo. You will be able to sit further back and have both arms down.
Hope this tips will help you to create awesome product photos and next week will be all about the apps.
